Introducing The Selah Journal for Kids
Practice Pause + Praise with your little ones in the happiest little journal on the block
I have three babies. My wild journey of motherhood started five years ago when we decided to try and get pregnant for the first time. And since then? My whole world has spun on an axis of motherhood. From my first baby to the next baby to the next baby. 20 months between the first two, and 22 months between the second two. Still nursing one while another grew in my belly. Over and over. And now we’ve had three babies in 3 and a half years. And there is a sense of completion. Terrifying and heart wrenching. Like an identity crisis. Because the one thing I wanted the most for my life? Having babies. It’s done. What. Now.
I find myself packing up baby clothes to give away and listing for sale all the swings and rockers and cribs that take up too much room in the house now. Because they sit. Unused. No more tiny babies to fit in swings and rockers and cradles. No more teeny tiny bodies to dress. Our last baby is almost 5 months old and she’s outgrown all the newborn things that we needed for so very long. And I literally weep into her onsies and stare wistfully at the rock and play, kind of trying to will her to be little again.

So this week over on Instagram we are finishing up our Creativity Challenge week, and it's inspired me to revisit some of my favorite creative resources and projects. And before you sign off because you think you are not creative, let me just say that YOU ARE CREATIVE. We are all creative in different and unique ways, and learning to foster our creativity helps us tune in to possibilities and opportunities we never noticed before. Look, if you meal plan or dress yourself every morning or buy home accessories at Home Goods, then you are making creative decisions and flexing your creativity muscles. In other words, we are all making dozens of creative decisions every single day. And once we learn which decisions matter to us and which ones drain us, we can start creating a life where we automate or outsource what drains us and we focus on and enjoy what excites us. So, basically? Understanding your creativity is a huge key to creating a life you love. This week's Friday Five is all about some of my favorite tools to unlock your creativity and figure out what matters most to you. I hope you find something you love!
Selah, Katie Forty people buzzing, laughing, eating, sharing. Babies bouncing on hips. Mamas swapping stories, seeking affirmation. Giving encouragement. Toddlers squealing and running and jumping on beds while daddies beg them to eat a few bites. Big kids helping little kids and asking to hold babies. People eating off paper plates at our scuffed up second hand table, posted up at the counter, and squeezed on the porch bench. Plates balanced on knees, and grown men sitting on the floor at the coffee table. Crowded all around our little house.
We eat sandwiches and bagged salads and watermelon and chips. The ice cream truck chimes and sends bare feet running to the lawn. Sweaty smiles and excited giggles. Drippy cones and giant blue popsicles. Welcome to this week’s Friday Five! I hope this Friday finds you with happy hearts and full tanks. This week on the Selah St. Simons Instagram page, I hosted a 5 day gratitude challenge. (Creativity challenge starts Monday, so join in!) So as I worked through this week of gratitude, my attention was called to what I started calling “little joys”. Those are the smallest things about our lives that bring us joy. And dear friend, the little joys matter. When we start tuning in to those tiny details, our lives feel richer. Just saturated with gifts. Uncovering our little joys can also help us stay present, keeping us in the beauty of the here and now. So for this week’s Friday Five, I wanted to share a few of little joys that made me happy this week. I hope they can brighten your day too!
